Current News of the Strange Society by DPsycho: 6-18-99 11:14am Central Tonight: Lowell's graduation/birthday party. See you there! Tomorrow AM: Leave for a week of fishing. No updates during that time, although I will hopefully make a good amount of progress on BWSbIV and perhaps another regular STory. 6-13-99 12:15am Central I finally have my computer functioning with the modem correctly. Current projects: - Freaky Wrong Link for June. Any nominees? - BWSbIV - Rewrite of the FAQs - Unrelated distractions including working cashier and going on vacation, which grant me more writing time, and Lowell's party I'll have more to say later. Right now, I'm pretty exhausted. 5-29-99 1:39pm Central Finals right now. I'll be home the evening of the 31st. I'm testing a new ftp method as I make this update. See you all soon. 5-26-99 10:30am Central Today's the last day of class at Knox. Finals begin Friday. My online time will probably be sporadic but not limited. My production time, on the other hand, will be close to nil. Remember, look for me on IM (you know the name, and remember the 1 at the end) and now on ICQ as well as 39256245. I'll see a lot of you next week. ^_^ 5-24-99 3:07pm Central Happy Victoria Day! 5-23-99 2:06pm Central I just added a search option to Strangesite! Now you can find elements within the stories by typing them into the field and having it supply you with the correct episode. Neato! For instance, type "neato" and see that this is the first I've ever used the word... 5-23-99 11:51am Central OK, Skye, it's been updated. 5-23-99 11:10am Central Sicko and Squaky were here and are gone. They claim to have had a good time, even though I spent every moment before classes on Friday getting their respective assignments hurriedly done. Thursday night was eventful, however. Skye, I'll revise the Genesis page today, I swear. Yup, I finally got to see Episode I last night. Good flick. Just needed a lot more character development and a lot less of the kid talking to R2 in his obnoxious squeal. *...shudder...* I began a new STory on Wednesday. Don't expect it soon, however. It's one of those time-killing things for now and we may not see any work done to it over the summer to give way to Book IV. (No, I have no plans to begin it yet. I'll keep you all posted.) Current return status: expect me on the evening of Monday the 31st. As for now, I've got finals of which to be concerned. 5-20-99 12:05pm Central Yay! Sicko and Squeaky are going to be visiting me at the campus today. Unfortunately, this means I have to do as much of my gross amount of homework due Friday right now... Skye, I haven't had the chance to update the ST Genesis page yet as I said I would. I'm sorry. I'll do it either Friday evening or Saturday. Now, back to my comp sci project... I think I've gone to lunch once this entire week... 5-19-99 10:06am Central Let's see... What all is going on... Anonymous is doing a culture assignment on the Strange Society, attempting to define who we are as a culture. He'll be using elements of this site along with stuff like our apparel in his demonstration. I think I speak for everyone by wishing him luck and wanting to know how it all turns out. I have one week of class left before finals. Expect me home within the first 2 days of June. Yes, as reported earlier this month, I do plan to attend NiWeHi graduation. I hate feeling my mortality. My heart's acting funny again. I wish I could at least know I'll be alive long enough to finish my stories. I guess that's all I have to say. 5-17-99 2:34pm Central Ah, at last. FTP is up and running once more. 5-16-99 9:36pm Central I did write up the FWlink this morning as promised, but Tripod's ftp isn't working. I've been trying to upload the changes all day. This edit is being done through Tripod's web-based editor, and I'll be darned if I'm making all the changes this way. I'll upload them as soon as it's fixed. 5-16-99 10:54am Central My life is a swirling myriad of nonsensical non sequitor. There're only 2 more weeks of my freshman year at college, and I'm milking them for all they're worth. And no, I haven't started drinking. Hmm... I should really make an effort to get the Freaky Wrong link typed up. Perhaps now is the time. 5-12-99 10:03am Central I'll probably be busy straight to the end of the month. I'll try to get the FW link done at some point, but right now I have numerous other concerns. 5-10-99 10:18am Central I updated the 4um heading, at long last. I hadn't done so since the messages started disappearing. I wrote an entire Java script last night! The Pretzel Vortex is about to become a lot more interesting... Honor the Strange Society. 5-9-99 11:22am Central There's a voting button on the bottom of the PikaDance page. If we make top 5, we get more recognition, more visits, more advertising credit. Votes only count once per IP per month, so only vote once from a single computer. For those of you who forget, I'm not going to be out of school within the next week like the rest of you. (Well, except the NiWeHi crew.) I'll be home in the first couple of days of June, and yes, I still hope to attend the NiWeHi graduation. Happy Mothers' Day! 5-8-99 12:13pm Central It's been a long week. I added the Lord of Lemurs to the Pretzel Vortex. If you haven't a clue as to what I'm talking about, visit the forum at SpiffyCo.com. If you do know what I'm talking about, go ahead and see at PretzelVortex.cjb.net. I may be adding others; just write yourselves in at the SpiffyForum and I'll get to it at my earliest convenience. I'll get to the FW Link later. As I said, I've selected one, but have yet to do the write-up. *YAWN...* 5-6-99 8:54pm Central I'm still exhausted, and I have tons of things to do before I can consider this week to be over. *SIGH* I just want some decent sleep, is all... Off to participate in a jazz performance before starting my mounds of homework. 5-5-99 9:36am Central I'm exhausted, so I won't be doing much today. Sorry. I'll write up the FRLotM as soon as I have the time. Happy Golden Week in Japan and Cinco de Mayo. 5-4-99 7:53am Central Beware the Pretzel Vortex... it's FLUNK DAY! 5-3-99 9:56am Central Nothing new since last night's message. 5-2-99 8:24pm Central Netbabbler was only down for a brief period while they added links to the top of the page to each message (for those users who couldn't figure out that clicking on the forum graphic has the same effect). They hope to reduce complaints about hitting back and finding expired pages this way. I have selected this month's Freaky Wrong Link but have yet to do the write-up. I'm in too good a mood right now to have to b*tch about someone's idiocy. Flunk Day approaches... 4-30-99 2:46pm Central As of one minute ago, Netbabbler went down completely. Again. 4-29-99 10:24am Central Busy morning. I'm usually done with my routine long before now... 4-28-99 10:09am Central Not much is happening online this week. SpiffyCo is printing up hats and Tees. Check it out in the SpiffyForum at SpiffyCo.com. 4-27-99 10:22am Central Tuesday, glorious Tuesday. Time to prepare for the radio show. 4-26-99 10:32am Central Time to report on the weekend. First of all, yesterday was my mom's birthday. Unable to procure a calling card, I ended up phoning collect. It's the thought that counts, right? I shaved again. I started Saturday night and finished this morning. I guess you can say I was inspired by Two Face. We had another jazz softball game. I lost my touch at catching... Flunk Day approaches... More on this later. Also, I've found myself in an unexpected situation over here. At NiWeHi, I was always able to stay above of the soap opera stuff which went on, but it seems that college has removed my immunity. I've apparently caught the attention of someone who now has to decide whether she wants to be with her boyfriend or with me. How I accomplished this without trying is beyond me. To have tried to do this is contrary to my morals. In any case, I'll leave it at this for now and report what happens later. I also don't know when this went from being a compilation of updates to my personal diary. Back to the updates, I added MIDI to the STGalaga page and made a couple of minor changes you won't even notice. Offline, I decided to give STDoom][ some attention, figuring I should at least prepare a prerelease and possibly just leave it at that. It would be nice if people could know what What is talking about when he makes reference to The Confusion Cannon. All I have left now is to add Drum Boy's weapon and I can release the thing. Gotta run now. Have a nice day! 4-24-99 10:47am Central Not much going on right now. Time to unwind for a bit, then maybe work on some older projects? 4-23-99 9:10am Central Taking a midterm; can't talk right now. Have a good weekend. 4-22-99 10:25am Central If you haven't been visiting the 4um, you've been missing a rather humorous battle between many of the Dark characters. Right now, it spans the 4um, SpiffyCo.com and the Arcadian Forum by means of HTML portals. Make sure to read it. The CD-r still isn't functioning reliably. Sorry for those who are waiting for productions. If you haven't read the BWSbIII yet, you've fallen behind. All ten chapters are available for viewing, and this book contains more of the current regulars. Read it. You know you want to. Hm... shouldn't have skipped breakfast today. *gurgle* 4-20-99 9:54am Central It's radio show day. Time to give the CD-r another try... Honor the Strange Society. 4-19-99 3:08pm Central I've only been getting positive responses to the release of Book III so far. Thanks! I'm open for suggestions and editing notes. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARIES! 4-18-99 10:34pm Central Settle down, Lowell. As of a few minutes ago, the directory named BaneWorldSagaIII became fully functional. Just hope I didn't accidentally cut out anything while converting text to HTML. I'm tired... 4-18-99 10:04am Central I was overjoyed yesterday to get my CD-r (which I never successfully had installed in my new computer after the drivers made Win98 crash on me for weeks) to a state where it appeared to function. I ran a simulation burn of an audio CD which checked out fine, so I set to work selecting MP3's to make a disc of anime music for our radio show. I set the disc to burn and went to lunch feeling a sense of accomplishment. When I got back I found that it reported errors in the absolute last step of the disc creation. Working the rest of the day on it, all I could manage to do was to have it run one successful simulation. All the rest of my attempts either halted the program or returned a message that there was no blank disc in the drive. Way to go and spoil what was looking to be an afternoon of such potential. But I'm not going to let it stop me. I still have some free time this morning, and I'm going to ignore CD's. It's time to pay some undivided attention to the BWS. 4-16-99 1:47pm Central Ah, the weekend at last. The PikaDance has been added to a webring of animated dances. I just hope that having the ring stuff there doesn't keep random visitors from making GoTo searches by using the ring instead. I'm gathering more ideas for additional sites and the like, so feel free to offer suggestions. Right now I'm considering fulfilling a certain school project of sorts... but it would take a good deal of work, so even if I were to begin it right now, it wouldn't get done for a while yet. Honor the Strange Society. 4-15-99 10:18am Central This week has been too demanding to make any significant changes to the site. 4-13-99 10:07am Central Pikachu AMB was given another award. The page has been updated accordingly along with the Pikachu Links page which could stand to be updated even further. 4-12-99 2:49pm Central 10 hours is a lot of sleep... I have a lot of random stuff to get done this week, so don't expect many major changes to Strangesite soon. 4-11-99 9:02pm Central I made it back alright. The trip was awesome as expected. I even passed my first Breathalizer test! Anyway, all is well, even though my inbox filled up completely in my absence... 4-8-99 9:58am Central I'm feeling a lot better now. As I explained in the 4um, I'm feeling more sociable, I got lots of sleep, we had a kick@ss softball game as a team of Jazz Band members where I was selected as the Player of the Game, and we leave tomorrow morning at... well, right about now for a double-overnight trip. Things are looking alright. Anyway, this will probably be the last update to the news text until Monday, unless I find something newsworthy to add this evening. Have a great weekend, everyone! 4-7-99 10:33am Central I've been feeling a bit depressed for no reason. What does this have to do with Strangesite? Well, maybe I'll work on BWS, as I usually turn to writing while I'm in any sort of mood. I also don't feel like leaving this room. Very antisocial. *sigh* Time for class. 4-6-99 10:25am Central All is well. 4-5-99 9:28am Central *YAWN!* Daylight Savings Time bites. 4-4-99 9:36am Central Just like to wish everyone a happy Easter, and don't forget about Daylight Savings Time, where applicable! 4-3-99 11:14am Central The FWLotM will go up today. 4-2-99 9:38am Central As soon as I have the chance, I'll get this month's Freaky Wrong link posted. This will hopefully occur today, as my next free moment after then may possibly not occur until Monday. Meanwhile, I have some stuff to get working on. 3-30-99 12:02pm Central First of all, no. I wasn't talking about the entry which claimed I'm a flaming homosexual. That isn't a suggestion. Second of all, the 4um's acting a little crazy at the end of the earliest messages. It appears that we've finally reached Netbabbler's bounds. Currently, if you were to try to view the earliest page, you would instead receive a listing of the most recent 1000 threads. It's an HTML generation of well over 100K. Interesting... we've finally managed to confuse the Netbabbler server into convulsions. ^_^ Unfortunately, yes, there are missing messages. Using a backup page, I've confirmed that 200 messages which had previously existed are no longer. Fortunately, as I've just mentioned, I have backups. Small portions, namely the entire original thread, have been preserved and will be added to Strangesite for public viewing forever. Backing up continues, although the first thread is the only one I've put the effort toward modifying thus far to be navigable outside of the true Netbabbler environment. http://members.tripod.com/DPsycho/4um The fact that Netbabbler is messing up the generation of entire pages (ie, 1000 threads on one page, 10 on the next) is evidence that it is their error which has caused this to be, not mine or the work of a saboteur. In other news, I'm relatively happy. ^_^ Life is Great. I feel inspired to create... (Didn't mean for that to rhyme... sorry.) 3-29-99 9:55am Central All is well. I finally got around to flying my kite Saturday, for anyone who was diligently following this file. Someone made an intriguing suggestion in the PikaDance guestbook. I may have to act on it... Honor the Strange Society! 3-27-99 11:07am Central As was suggested yesterday, this weekend will consist of a lot of work outside of Windows, so you won't see me online a lot. 3-26-99 9:42am Central This has been a very long week. My weekend is pretty open as of right now, so you may see me around online. Then again, I may be working on hardware, in which case my terminal will be turned off. In any case, whatever. Perhaps book the third will happen soon. 3-25-99 10:02am Central No, ZFractal, this is the ST News page again. You're looking for a link from the FIRST page. Not much to report. Just made a few corrections/updates here and there, backed up a few things. Since the inclusion of banner ads on the 4um page and the PikaDance, my tier share has risen by over 50%. Excellent. This, of course, is incentive to create more individual pages of this type. Any suggestions? I made the PikaDance on a whim, so feel free to offer ideas. Honor the Strange Society! 3-24-99 9:57am Central Just a few little updates today. I may not be around much this weekend, so I don't know when the next major change will occur. Besides, given the time to work on anything, I really should finish the Japanese Club website I have 70% complete. 3-23-99 10:29am Central All is well. Enter the 4um for some amusement. ZFractal created a new character for himself, Martin, who is apparently his lawyer? In any case, the random idiocy continues. It's a nice day today. If the wind picks up, I think I'll go fly my kite. ^_^ 3-22-99 10:09am Central Spring break has ended, but it sure was a blast. Unexpectedly, just about everybody was home or available last week to go out and have a good time. It was great to see you all! Banners have been added to the PikaDance and 4um pages. The GoTo search fields have accrued over $5 already. Excellent! Have to keep cranking out more pages... ZFractal has returned to make pitiful attempts to belittle all who enter the help forum; attempts which, amusingly enough, never fail to backfire upon himself. Book 3 WILL be finished. I did get a little work done on it at home. A massive overhaul of the ST Glossary, originally created by What before Strangesite's dawning, is underway by What and Skye. I'm uncertain as to when we should expect to see it online. There have been problems logging in to the email addresses @StrangeSociety.zzn.com. I'm not sure what to tell you, other than to try having it give notification to another address when it receives messages so you don't have to check it regularly. I'll look into the problem further at my earliest convenience. Meanwhile, I need to get some more sleep before my 10:40am class. Honor the Strange Society. 3-14-99 10:12am Central WHEW! BAGA was, simply put, awesome. Not that I expect all of you to know what I'm talking about. Four words: Rootabaga Jamm Jazzfest '99! Strangesite now offers email addresses @StrangeSociety.zzn.com, a service provided by ZZN. Awesome! Sign up for one today. (C'mon, who doesn't need a sixth email address? When next I update, home I will be. PSYCHO'S A-COMIN' BACK! Book3...book3...book3... 3-13-99 9:50am Central BAAAGAAA! 3-12-99 11:28am Central BAGA! 3-11-99 2:24pm Central Again, length has prompted me to begin the STnews text anew. Wow... another half a year has passed, and we've gotten a whole mess of visits since the start of the last text! Anyway, With the bulk of my finals completed, I'll have more time to devote to Strangesite than I have lately. I'll see you guys next week -- it's spring break time for Knoxville. Honor the Strange Society.
