Current News of the Strange Society by Dangerously Psycho: 6-19-98 until 6-29-98 GONE FISHIN' 6-19-98 9:47am Central I got the laptop. It only runs DOS and usually can't access the hard drive, but it runs stuff off disk perfectly. Runs Infocom games pretty well, too! As for the daily ST news (this screen), nothing will be happening for the next week b/c I'm GONE FISHIN'! Please continue to visit the 4um as it will be maintained by Skye Valentine in my absense. I just hope Dark Skye doesn't get in... 6-18-98 10:14am Central If you notice that Skye's 4um messages are suddenly perfect for a week or so (that is, he no longer leaves null-link images) it's because he'll be editing the 4um for me in my absense with a temporary password. Don't let him get too "SHUTTLE! COCK!"y with his newfound power. The Lord of Lemurs will be giving me his old, decrepid laptop today so I can work on Bane World Saga book II while I'm away. He also apologizes for not being able to work on The Mental Ward. He's been unable to spend more than 10 minutes at an Internet capable computer all summer long thus far. At first I thought last night's South Park was going to be crappy, but then it wasn't. Anyone who missed it HAS TO catch it this weekend. It was hilarious! Future additions to Strangesite: * Bane World Saga book II * Holy Grail sound mixes by Skye Valentine (with his permission) * A master Image Map for navigation Later additions: * ST Doom][ prerelease * AdVisOr zips. (You'll learn at LOL's party...) * ST Interactive Adventure * ST Galaga revision? * ST Infocom game? * A Kissikae system set file of Lowell??? (Maybe not...) * A new STory! 6-17-98 9:42am Central Today I'll give Skye V. a temporary password to edit the ST 4um for while I'm away. It's aggravating to be away from the WWW when you've become dependant upon it. I've had days when the desire to check my email has been overpowering. *Shudder* While this text won't be updated for that entire week, I should be able to near completion of the BWSaga book II. This is good news for everybody. Especially for Jazmine who apparently still doesn't believe me that I've mentioned her in book I. All will be revealed soon, although I'll most certainly be in college by the time book III is done. (I'm hoping for the conclusion at the end of book III, but I'm not certain yet.) In the meantime, I encourage everyone to keep visiting the 4um, and I also encourage LOL not to have the party he's planning until I get home. Honor the Strange Society! 6-16-98 10:03am Central All is well. Hopefully, I'll be borrowing/acquiring a laptop from the Lord of Lemurs so I'll be able to work on the STories and multimedia while on vacation and working the cash register at the pool. OHMYGODWORKINGTHEREGISTERISBORING! I discovered last night that my brother's PlayStation came with a demo CD. Instead of playing FFVII which I started over Sunday, I ended up playing PaRappa and Intelligent Qube for a few hours last night. I've been singing rapped lyhrics ever since. (See the ST 4um) 6-15-98 9:48am Central Um, I can't stay and chat today. I start work in an hour. (Dangerously Psycho of the Strange Society is employed by the Morton Grove Park District to teach little kids how to swim. Go figure.) All I have time to do today is visit the 4um. I'll have more time tomorrow, hopefully. 6-12-98 10:12am Central You know, I THOUGHT I forgot to update this file yesterday. And I was online for more than 2 hours, too! Thank you, Skye, for pointing out the null link I had. Such input is always encouraged. Not much to say for now. Next time I'll hopefully have gotten the info for the band trip to Great America. We all have to live strtbl3 one more time. 6-10-98 7:13pm Central Wow! These new computers are a godsend! Things load so smoothly! Woohoo! You know what's a funny movie? Johnny Dangerously. I'm going to put a top-10 list about it in the 4um. You know what else is fun? Old Infocom games. If I can get Inform.exe working properly, I'm going to make a text-interface game out of BWSaga when it's done. (Yes, you'll have to TELL Tim to pick up the pen.) Thanks to MADADAM for introducing me to Infocom's many outdated wonders. Sorry about using your name so much in this message, What. I need some input on ST Galaga! Please see the 4um for details. 6-9-98 3:30pm Central Special report: Since LOL didn't set his VCR for me right and Sailor Moon didn't tape as it should have, his life is marked. Have a nice day. 6-9-98 3:20pm Central 6-9! 6-9! Oh, um, sorry. I've fixed the 4um. Twice. It became quite frustrating. At least the background is finally up. I've made a lot of changes and additions over the past few days. Now available on the ST download page are ST Galaga v1.1, ST Windows files and a new MIDI compostion inspired by the Castle Psycho from the Bane World Saga. Other changes include the addition of file sizes to the download page and an image map on the ST Pic page. Yesterday, I spent the entire morning working on BWSaga book II. The project is going quite nicely... More to be added tomorrow! Oh, by the way, the last message was from the party at GOD's last Friday. Haha, LOL! 6-5-98 8:25pm Central Lol whines too much. 6-5-98 9:42am Central I stand corrected. Only terminal 1 is slow. #2 works perfectly. I love the ST 4um! It has 207 messages at the time of this report and shows no sign of slowing down. I don't even mind maintaining it daily. Still, would anyone prefer a different color background? I selected the existing one at random. I could give it wallpaper, too. Just lemme know what you all think. I'm always open for suggestions. Party at GOD's tonight. All the ST is invited. Call him for details. Recalling last summer's surge of game hack projects (see the ST Download page) I had an idea this morning. Once I finish redrawing the deck for ST Solitaire, we need a new NES rom of ST Galaga. No, I'm not certain of what all the ships'll be. I think I'll open it up for suggestions in the 4um. I hope to see you all tonight! 6-4-98 1:21pm Central Sorry this message is coming so late. I actually began my visit of the 4um at 11:30, but Jazmine's right. The library computer's are slow compared to everything else. Fortunately, it appears that they're installing new terminals with much better access. I hope so, because this is where I'll be making my changes to Strangesite for the next few months. And now a word from a Pokemon: "Pikachu!" Party at GOD's house tomorrow? And I don't mean the Church or Temple, neither. Hope to see the rest of the STrange there. For a good time, try answering the BWS quiz in the ST 4um. 6-3-98 7:58am Central Holy, cow! 11 megs from Tripod as of today! Bye-bye, Fortune City. Your editing interface was one of the worst experiences I've had online. I'll be walking across the stage tonight... *begin Pomp and Circumstance* 6-2-98 9:44am Central It's wonderful to see that the forum has been such a great success! Would anyone prefer a different choice of background? Let me know! I'm adding a link to Andrea Hui's page in the links section. Now LOL can find out who she is. I hope to see some of you at graduation tomorrow. 6-1-98 11:26am Central Lots to say this morning, everybody! First off, I invite everyone to tune in to Cartoon Network this afternoon for the third annual US premiere of Sailor Moon! I know where I'll be at 3:00 Central. Secondly, check out the ST professional photo page. It now sports a kewl image map so you can read what the various onjects are in the mouse-over text box. I've finally gotten around to uploading the ST Win95 files to the multimedia page. Give 'em a look over. I especially love the animated cursors. Graduation is this Wednesday! 5-29-98 9:51am Central I'm always open for suggestions. I've been telling myself I needed to flush out the gueSTbook again, but that isn't really the solution. I have just completed the establishment of an official Strangesite forum (aka "4um") to handle the large number of messages we have been receiving as of late. I encourage all visitors to make use of it. I'm going to leave the geuSTbook there, although I'll probably disable the ability to leave new messages in a few days. They'll always be a part of Strangesite, however, and will always be available for viewing. As for a chat room, I don't believe Strangesite needs one just yet. Perhaps when we've all gone off to college there will be a need for real-time communication. That brings us to the fact that today is the last day of my study at Niles West high school. This won't stop me from writing stories about the ST's adventures here, but it does put into perspective the amount of time I've devoted to the one's I've already written. I'm just glad that everyone enjoys them so thoroughly. Even those who claim not to enjoy them, at least we get some entertainment using our powers against them. ("Excuse me, have you met Annoying?") It's been a great 4 years, NiWeHi. Now to finally blow you up indefinitely. ;) 5-28-98 8:51am Central Haha! The choir people decided they'd rather take down part of the sign than wait for us to take it down today. We hereby have no responsibility for taking down any specific half of a sign which way adorn any part of the Niles West building. After tomorrow, updates will be on a severely random basis, but I'll also have a lot more time to make true improvements, so the updates will be significant. An image map of the professional ST photo is almost complete. Haha! Choir people have no patience! (No offense, LOL.) 5-27-98 9:09am Central Um, it fixed itself. 5-27-98 9:05am Central You may have noticed that Tripod is acting a little strangely today. Access is slow, and I can't even get into the editing area. I'll try to make my updates later when things get back on track. Last night was our band banquet. Drum Boy won the Fastest Flag award for the fourth year in a row! Don't ask... Dammit! I want to update my pages! Well, perhaps things'll fix themselves soon. 5-26-98 8:54am Central I have quite a bit to report, so here goes. First of all, at the time of my writing this, the V3 redirection service (welcome.to/Strangesite) isn't functioning, and not just for me but for everyone who uses the service, including The Mental Ward. If you're reading this, either the service is working again or you accessed the true URL, members.tripod.com/~DPsycho/ Images was distributed this morning to homerooms, this year containing within its pages The Strange Society Goes to the Beach. Read it for yourself at members.tripod.com/~DPsycho/society7.htm As of yesterday afternoon (when the building was closed), the band wing has been named officially so. (See entry 5-20-98) We are all quite pleased with our work. Yearbooks are out, and the professional ST picture is in. Bane World Saga book I is an undisputed success. Evidentally, so was my Chinatown trip. Have a fortune cookie, and Honor the Strange Society. 5-22-98 8:21am Central I invite everyone to join me in the Bane World Saga directory and enjoy the premiere of my most prized work. Please, don your nicest threads and join the party. Bane World Saga book I is officially released! 5-21-98 9:30am Central Bane World Saga Book I will be officially released tomorrow, Friday 5-22, as scheduled. Join the ST for this momentous occasion. 5-20-98 8:40am Central Well, we did it. Sicko and I went through the hassle (Sicko is currently standing by declaring "oh, nasty!" to everything I type) of creating a sign reading "BAND" to cover the current painted word "music" above the Band Wing. We took video of the project and will probably have some nice before&after photos here when we've completed our mission. Today: new South Park! Thursday: BAND sign unveiled? Friday: World premiere of Bane World Saga book I 5-19-98 8:49am Central The gala release of Bane World Saga book I will occur this week! Those who have perused this site carefully have already found a link or two to the uncompleted pages, but the official release is slated for this Friday, also our Senior Ditch Day. Finally, visitors to Strangesite will be able to enjoy the first book of this epic tale. Included along with the release of the story will be some words from distinguished ST members and friends, a special commentary forum and a sneak preview of what is to come (oh, nasty!) in book II. Don't forget to dress appropriately! 5-18-98 11:37am Central Can't talk today - too much is happening. Sorry. 5-15-98 8:50am Central Half a month until Sailor Moon premieres on CN, Prom tonight, and official unveiling of Bane World Saga book I set for next week. Things are happening, and happening things are quite often good. As part of the festivities, I would like to have a few guest speakers offer their gib on the first book of this novel-type work. Look for further announcements soon! 5-14-98 8:45am Central I've been rearranging the structure of Strangesite, adding more subdirectories, and updating pages such as the FAQ. I've also copied the ST professional photo to this server from Fortune City and put it within a page instead of just linking to the image itself. (My next step will be to create an image map out of the thing.) I found a new toy to promote in the links page. Check it out! It comes from a site full of web toys and goes by one of our favorite names. SHUTTLE! COCK!!! I've copied the CGI call to this server. I'll be working to implement specific calls to the stories by buttons, but until then, try it manually. 5-13-98 8:13am Central The week's half over. BWSbI is about a third of the way done. I have about two nerves left. At least the end is near... the stress has really gotten to me. Oh, here's some news I should have reported already. A year ago, I was stopped in the hallway by Ms. Desjardens (I hope I spelled it at least close to how she does), the Images sponsor. For the unaware, Images is NiWeHi's art and literary magazine, produced yearly. The first story, The Strange Table and Groundhog Day, was written for the sole purpose of submission to Images. In the first three years, every story was rejected. Anyway, she stopped me in the hallway, asked if I was Dangerously Psycho and promised that if I submitted them all again this year, one would get in for sure. This year, I joined Images (along with Anonymous the Paranoiac) and was part of the selection process. Needless to say, they were all rejected. Anyway, after some consultation, I prepared the Beach episode for print. Images comes out next week, including an eight-page ST story. I hope Alice wasn't too mad when I dropped off the disk at her house Sunday morning. 9:30 is too late to have still been asleep in my opinion. 5-12-98 12:29pm Central See? I said the updates would be random. I'm considering closing the Fortune City mirror. The editing utilities never got any better, and it feels detrimental to have an outdated version floating around out there. 5-11-98 8:43am Central Well, this is Hell week for me. Too many obligations (real ones, with deadlines which determine success and stuff) and not enough time to prepare myself for them all. But you don't want to hear me bitch, so simply browse Strangesite as usual and don't be surprised if I don't update it until next week. The guestbook and my email are always open for comments and suggestions. 5-8-98 9:28am Central I got the book to look great for the Bane World Saga page! Um, not that anyone should be seeing it yet... most of the links there are purposely null. I did update theory.htm once I discovered it was still there. Oh, and yes. I did join the I Hate Clowns webring. It's only fitting. 5-7-98 9:04am Central I need to add some graphics to link to other pages. What Strangesite really needs is an image map. I'll try to get on it this weekend. Wait... forgot I have to study for AP tests. Dammit. Work on converting BWS book I to Strangesite is continuing as planned. It will be nice and sensuous when it's done. Work on the interactive story is proceeding veeery slowly. I have too many projects going. *Sigh* I don't need help with anything, though, unless someone wants to take my AP tests for me. 5-6-98 8:50am Central BWS book I is underway. I'm going to revamp the main page this morning. 'Dat's all. 5-5-98 9:33am Central AP tests start next week, so whatever updates I make after Friday will be on a very irregular basis. Those updates will have merit, however, for I've begun to put the Bane World Saga Book I into HTML. Its unveiling to the web community will be somewhat of a black-tie occasion, or whatever they call those things. Stay tuned to Strangesite for further updates. 5-4-98 9:00am Central May Samantha Ann Kyte rest in quiet peace. The ST offers our condolences. 5-1-98 11:36am Central I'm glad this week's finally over. I haven't had any free time in quite awhile now. with any luck, maybe I'll finally get BWS Book #I up this month. Wow. Signing other peoples' guestbooks is actually quite an effective way to get visitors to your site. View the gueSTbook to see what I mean. MAYDAY! Um, yeah. Have a good weekend. 4-30-98 9:07am Central Well, wuddya know? Strangesite received its first award this morning. It seems we're not doing too bad here. I hope to add some extra-tasty-crispy stuff soon. Don't forget to send us all of your comments and suggestions. 4-29-98 2:47pm Central What, after much harrassment from me, has decided rather than to reupload the ST Glossary to his current server, he'll send me a copy to be maintained by me here at Strangesite. No word yet on when his Page of Confusion (or whatever) will be completed. It'll probably be some time after we graduate in a month. 4-29-98 8:55am Central I added a few blink tags here and there. I also submitted Strangesite to a mess of web awards. Beyond this, not much is new. Read yesterday's report if you want to read of anything significant. 4-28-98 8:51am Central I got another schedule burp, so I'll be adding to the news log closer to 9am than 8am from now on. Rather than refer to my latest project as an ST choose-your-own-adventure story, I'll just call it an Interactive Adventure from now on. It's simpler. So, as for the STIA, the storyline so far is this. The ST members were on an airplane going probably to Europe on a school trip when Annoying went up to the pilots' cabin. They bailed, the plane crashed, the chaperones are dead, and the ST (and Cello Girl) are the only ones who aren't shaken by the whole experience as all the students belly-land on some island. (Think Lord of the Flies without British wusses.) It'll be up to the reader to split up the group, one to explore and one to survey the wreckage, and make the decisions from thereon to determine the outcome of the story. All possibilities will be somewhat typical, but it will be possible to cause Operation Destruction to fail if someone dies. Expect appearances from characters in the other stories, and try every possibility. I have a lot of enthusiasm for this endeavor. 4-27-98 8:16am Central Mondays bite. I'm sure this wasn't a news-flash to anybody. 4-24-98 8:16am Central I've only been getting positive responses to the c.y.o.adventure-type story I proposed yesterday morning. As always, suggestions may be submitted to the gueSTbook or mailed to DPsycho@dangerous-minds.com. Another weekend is upon us and the end of the schoolyear approaches. The Mental Ward has started counting down the days. Sadly, another countdown began a while back. Sam, Drum Boy's beloved cat who was mentioned in Society8, is 22 years old and will return to the planet's stream of Mako energy on the second of next month. The ST wishes Samantha a sad farewell. Have a good weekend. 4-23-98 8:20am Central Yesterday, in observance of Earth Day, the ST didn't go hunting. Istead, we played kitty catapult. OK, just kidding. (As far as I recall, we never have gone hunting, except in the metphorical sense.) "IIIIII'm saaaailiiiiing awaaaaaay..." I don't have much to add today. I'm not sure if I'll be adding ST.htm to any more webrings, or at least any time soon. I may submit Strangesite itself to a couple, but my next endeavor may be for awards instead. I know I don't have any fancy JAVA stuff (yet), but that isn't important to a good page. Something I have sort've begun work on is an online choose-your-own-adventure type ST story. I starting laying down the plot to a new story in physics yesterday, but found myself viewing it like FF VII when I had to decide how the group would split up into two teams. It became apparent to me that I should write many facets to the storyline depending on how the reader decides the plot should unfold. And what better way to present it than with linking HTML pages? This is, of course, a long distance away in development, so don't expect it anytime soon. I'll present updates to this project when progress is made. (Maybe I'll finally get to show off some use of JAVA here.) Hmm... I guess I did have a lot to add today after all. 4-22-98 8:13am Central Tonight's the night! We finally get to discover the TRUE FATHER of Eric Cartman... Not much is happening for the ST, other than the continued Webring submissions. We're up to four of 'em now. For a good time, try the Mental Ward's forum. My guess is still Mr. Garrisson. After all, he IS the apparent father of Cartman's pig's baby. 4-21-98 8:20am Central ST.htm, the page I've been submitting to various webrings, has been given a minor face- lift. It probably isn't very noticeable, but I'm happier with it now. Some of the Images members are actually enjoying the stories. For those who don't know, Images is NiWeHi's art and literary magazine which comes out at the end of each year. It was for Images that I wrote the first ST story (Groundhog Day) and I've submitted every story I'd written every year, never seeing one published. This year, I joined Images myself and am currently part of the painstaking selection process. (I have to say, I am quite sick and tired of amatuer Dark Poetry.) Surprisingly, however, there have been one or two positive responses. At least Becky keeps breaking out into laughter. That probably doesn't sound as good as I'd like for it to... So that's all for now. Back to my work. 4-20-98 8:25am Central Not much to say for right now. I have a bunch more webrings I plan to apply to. Beyond that, nothing else is going on. 4-17-98 8:25am Central Thanks to a discovery made by the Lord of Lemurs, Strangesite has been registered with a new service. We may now be reached with the URL http://welcome.to/Strangesite. Try it out! Follow the link on the initial page to get this service for yourself. (I promote them because I like them.) It's about time to clear out the gueSTbook and start anew. If I do, I'll create a separate page with the previous messages, so don't let it concern anyone. Have a great weekend. 4-16-98 8:15am Central All the problems I'd been having were due to someone installing garbage on the school's computers. All should be OK now. I'm currently going through the process of adding the page which links to the stories to various writing-related webrings. You may have noticed the graphics at the bottom of ST.htm. I'll also be further exploring the Tripod pop-up window phenomenon to try to decrease the occurence of the unwanted ads. As for the stories, I'll have Bane World Saga Book I up when I've completed its revision. Some of the webrings I've researched deal with long stories, and BWS would be perfect for such a category. I'm uncertain when the next "typical" story will premiere. Please feel free to Email suggestions or sign the Guestbook. Thanks for the fan mail. 4-15-98 8:30am Central Sheesh, I've been trying to connect all morning. Something's rotten in Denmark. I've been warned by the Sultan of the Mental Ward that Strangesite may be the next target for the unknown hacker(s) who allegedly has some sort of Email mimicking program and other illegal tools. I would rather encourage whoever it is to meet in a one-on-one confrontation battle to the death, but whatever. We're still here. 4-14-98 8:30am Central The Mental Ward has been hacked into tiny, bite-sized pieces. There is an operative mirror and theMentalWard.com is still ok, but until this business is settled, I've deactivated the link. Strangesite has been unaffected by the senseless vandalism. Cartoon Network is picking up Sailor Moon! I can't begin to stress my happiness! I've joined another webring. See ST.htm. Nothing else to report. 4-13-98 8:10am Central Attention those with half a brain cell: THIS FILE IS NOT THE MAIN ATTRACTION OF STRANGESITE. There, now that that's all said and done... (oh, nasty!) The school year is nearing its end, and we all know what this means... prank week is not far along! The ST is planning its own string of actions for our beloved NiWeHi, and it's never too early too start. Ideas we've brainstormed so far include: A giant paper mache dildo to adorn the outside of the building, suspended from the roof Large pyramid to be contructed in the CAF out of tables Two words: Shrink Wrap! We're thinking the basketball hoops and maybe the poorly situated security cameras. The gym floor needs some large pictures made out of electrical tape. As for the pool, we can't deide whether we want to use Country Time Lemonade or just dump in a collection of goldfish/minnows. Anyway, if there are any further suggestions or anything, feel free to use the ST guestbook or Email either Sicko or me. Oh, and no more moron entires. (You know who you are, "G.") Believe it or not, we have better things to do than filter out tasteless messages. 4-3-98 8:20am Central Shortened classes today, three quizzes/tests, and not enough sleep. Well, at least it's Friday. Officially, this is the first entry of the new news log. I just left the last week or so here for anyone who hasn't been here recently. Happy spring break, everyone. 4-2-98 3:20pm Central I managed to find the time to make the following changes on my Tripod server. The HTML code of ST.htm was massively sloppy. I viewed it and felt ashamed that such a coded document could exist. Needless to say, I fixed it up, although not completely as of yet. I added HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes to the images on the links page so it will load faster. It irritated me that the Mental Ward animation I made sometimes completed itself before the user could even see it. Time to split this text file in half. Notepad can't handle it's size... 4-2-98 8am Central For a half-hour Terrence and Phillip episode, last night's South Park didn't seem all that entertaining. But what can you do? Spring break begins tomorrow, so I hope to be able to get some decent work done. Changes probably won't occur until a week from Monday however. Until then, I invite everyone to take it easy. If the world would just join together for one spring break... the travel industry would need to expand drastically. Whatever. I hope What get his sites back up again soon. It's getting pretty lonely being the only one promoting myself. (?) I think I need to get more sleep... 4-1-98 8am Central Great news for the ST! Images, our school's art and literary publication, is not only printing ALL of the stories, but also changing the name this year from "Images" to "The ST Tome" or something to that nature. This is significant, but shadowed by the even better news of my election to world dictator. What an honor! Oh, and April Fools everybody. On a serious note, however, we have a band concert tonight. That's all for now. 3-31-98 8:10am Central It's formal dress-up day here at NiWeHi, so I have on an entire Tuxedo Mask ensemble. I may be one of the probably one dozen students dressed up today, but hell. It's an excuse to dress up as Tuxedo Mask! Who wouldn't? Um, don't answer that... As I said before, things will be very busy, so I apologize if no significant chnges are made here until April thirteenth or so. I will still try to update the news, however, so if anything important occurs it will appear here. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go rescue the Sailor Scouts... 3-30-98 3:16 pm Central Sure, just as I link to the ST Glossary, What goes and changes his AOL account name. I don't even know if his pages still exist now. Wonderful :{ Anyway, the only changes I made concern Mr. DeHelizat and his Email change. Things will probably go slowly for the next two weeks as spring break begins this Friday. Oh, yeah. 22-hour Monty Python marathon this past weekend. Ministry of Silly Walks all the way. Oh, yeah.
